I could see this on the mother board. March 30, That will tell you if the drive is failing. Go to the drive manufacturer’s site and download their diagnostics and test the drive. March 31, You really have two different issues. Your manual will tell you how to do that also. Think carefully before you flash. I have also the same problem when I was testing out new HDD I will fill in the blanks and incomplete information in another hour and half once Kvm800m am back home.
Thank eata for looking. HI Thanks for the reply. The bios prevents hard drive access until the drive is spinning at its’ rated speed. So, testing and back up of that drive is critical. Those boards usually have bios settings that must be set right in order to recognize SATA drives. I unplugged the power to the unit and for times the power would come on for one second then die.
A bit more information please? K8vm8000m may also need this utility: If you leave the battery out for about 15 minutes with the system unplugged from the wall, that will clear your current bios settings and may fix the problem without needing to reflash the bios. It is set to IDE.

To make it work as sata you need to install sata drivers along with XP installation.
